Frequently Asked Questions
Most often, this indicates a maintenance error, the plant is not properly placed in the apartment and the amount of humidity is not monitored enough. These symptoms can occur due to too much constant humidity. However, it may happen that we discover this after several months of a perfectly established and functioning ecosystem, in which case the following problems may be most often associated with certain periods. Such as, among others, the beginning of the winter heating season, when the room temperature rises drastically compared to the previous temperature that the florarium is already well accustomed to. At this time, the cloudy weather in winter, due to which the florarium receives less light and the exceptionally high room temperature of 24-26 degrees, greatly contributes to more intense humidity and the formation of mold. In such a case, it is worth removing the small garden from the heating and placing it in a slightly cooler (not cold), average room temperature, slightly brighter place.
First of all, drastic temperature differences can cause great damage. One example is the beginning of the winter heating season, as we mentioned above, but it is also not uncommon for the sun to suddenly come out during these cloudy autumn - winter - early spring months, and the florarium begins to become intensely humid due to the sudden, excessive sunlight, which results in rotting symptoms similar to the above if we are not careful.Likewise, if the house gets very hot in the summer and we want to achieve some relief with a draft, fan or air conditioning, not only is there the problem of excessive humidity mentioned above, but the plants in the florarium can also get cold, which can have similar irreversible consequences. Therefore, it is worth finding another place for them, which provides a similar temperature and conditions to their previous location. The strong 30-degree warming that appears from early summer can also lead to overheating and cooking of the plants.
During the planting, the florarium received the amount of water that it will live comfortably with for months, so it is strictly forbidden to water it, until we notice that the plants are wilting, showing signs of dryness and the glass does not fog up at all at any time of the day. In this case, we must also be very careful. We can use a water spray or syringe to replace the water, but it is very important not to accidentally overwater, since the excess water cannot leave the closed glass, so we can achieve the opposite effect and the plants can rot. It is better to give it less water gradually! This period varies for every bottle garden, some only require water replacement after half a year or a year, some after a few months, but there are some that do not even after 1 year.
Yes, it can dry out if it has been ventilated for too long or through too large an opening, or if the cap has not been put back on properly, so it does not close completely and the vital moisture escapes. If we want to ventilate the florariums due to excessive humidity, it is worth leaving them open only a crack several times for short periods (10-15 minutes, maximum half an hour). If we do see signs of drying out, the instructions given above will be the guiding principles.
As soon as you notice it, it is worth removing the dead plant from the glass so that the others are not harmed. If the plant dies within 15 days of illness, we will replace it under warranty. If it dies after that, it may have been caused by a maintenance problem or inadequate attention. Here too, it is possible to replant the plant for an additional fee.
A semi-shaded place in the apartment is best, where it gets some light, but not directly. It feels good almost anywhere in the apartment, but there are 3 very important exceptions where it should not be placed under any circumstances, otherwise the ecosystem will be destroyed. Never do:On a hot day and in a window. The hot sun not only burns the leaves of the plants, but due to the enormous heat and humidity, the plants cook in the glass and die. Remember that it is always a little warmer in the glass, so the heat of the room or the sun can result in double the heat inside the glass. You should not put it in a window even if the sun is not hot, as the temperature fluctuations can be much greater. This can be because it will be cloudy for a short time and then the sun will shine again, the window is not insulated enough and the bottle garden will get cold due to the cold air flowing in.A very dark, secluded place. Although you should avoid the blazing sun, as in everything, here too the Golden Mean should be followed. It is important that it receives light, but this should be indirect light. If it is too dark in a secluded place, the plants will also lose their bright colors and die after a while.Heating, air conditioning and drafts nearby. All of this creates a huge temperature difference, which leads to strong pulsations inside the glass and as a result of the many changes, over-humidification occurs, which can lead to rotting of the plant. In the case of heating, there is a risk of overheating, while in the case of air conditioning and drafts, the inhabitants of the florarium are threatened by catching a cold.
